The tantalizing promise of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X is that the screen will be large enough to allow you to get proper work done, but the truth, of course, is that for most desk-based work you do not need a large screen but a good keyboard.

Enter stage left F(x)tec with their Pro1, a keyboarded device very reminiscent of the heydays of Windows Mobile or the Motorola Droid.

The UK start-up is planning to offer 64 key horizontal slider in July running Android 9 Pie with some minor modifications to make it work better in landscape mode.

The device is only 13.99 mm thick and offers stereo speakers, USB-C, a headphone jack, microSD expandability, a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor and NFC. It also has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, with its biggest weakness being its SnapDragon 835 processor, now two generations behind.

The handset has shown off at MWC and will cost $649 in the United States and £649 in UK.
