With the new Fitbit Alta HR midrange fitness tracker, Fitbit also announced new sleep-focussed features which let users track, analyse, understand and improve their sleep even better, using the new heart rate sensor built into the new generation Alta HR and other higher-end Fitbits.

Now Fitbit has started rolling out support for the feature to their Windows 10 UWP app, letting users visualise their Sleep Staged and receive Sleep Insights.

Sleep Stages let you see how much time you spend in light, deep and REM sleep, using a combination of your movement and the heart rate sensor.  It will therefore only work with the Alta HR, Blaze and Charge 2.

Sleep Insights (coming in March to all compatible Fitbits) combines sleep data with your diet and fitness patterns to make suggestions, for example exercising more to secure more sleep. If you sleep soundly after night runs, for example, the Fitbit app will recommend doing that more often. Insights work with every Fitbit device that supports sleep tracking, which includes the entire lineup outside of the Zip.

The Alta HR will support the Sleep Stages features out of the box, while the Charge 2  and Blaze will need a firmware update coming soon.

The updated app can be found in the Store here.
