That did not take long. TWN reports that mere days after the release of Windows 8 a fake anti-virus malware app   has already turned up.

The app, detected by Trend Micro, is an example of a scareware trojan that pretends of scan and detect viruses on a user’s computer and then convince them to buy and install software, which are often malware themselves.

With Windows 8 bringing even stronger security to Windows, increasingly the malware problems are due to social engineering, and TNW notes that to defeat these threats, the best thing is usually to turn away from deals that appear just too good to be true.
