Evidence for T9 keyboard found in Windows Phone 8.1

Besides the rumoured Swype-style keyboard in Windows Phone 8, it seems the OS is preparing to offer some text input options which harken back to the 90’s.

It appears we may be seeing T9-style keyboards, possibly in combination with a Swype-style keyboard.

The information comes via the MUI files from Windows Phone 8.1 emulator, extracted by Windows Phone Lover.

The keyboard will likely be a soft keyboard as mocked up above, but given Microsoft’s impetus to expand into the really low-end with Nokia’s feature phone business, I would not be surprised if we one day see a proper Nokia-style phone with keyboard.
