Fortnite’s almost unimaginable popularity thanks to its battle royale mode has been quite lucrative for developer Epic Games—and even snagged it a crossover event with Avengers: Infinity War. It’s been doing so well that the company is providing funds for prize pools in Fortnite eSports competitions to the tune of $100 million.

“In the 2018 – 2019 season, Epic Games will provide $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”

Epic will provide more details in the coming weeks. Seeing as E3 2018 is shortly approaching, Fortnite could be making a huge showing with announcements regarding its future in eSports.

Other popular eSports series like Call of Duty will soon be cashing in on the battle royale craze as well. It remains to be seen how this will affect the eSports field going forward.
