Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB

Back in May, Microsoft first revealed Azure Cosmos DB, a brand new cloud database service built from the ground up to power planet-scale cloud services and data-intensive applications. Azure Cosmos DB is the industry’s first globally distributed, multi-model database service to deliver horizontal scale with guaranteed uptime, throughput, consistency and single-digit millisecond latency at the 99th percentile.

Microsoft today announced that developers can now try out Azure Cosmos DB for free. The best part is that there is no sign-up or credit card required. Developers can now evaluate Azure Cosmos DB, build and test their app against Azure Cosmos DB, do a hands-on-lab, a tutorial, create a demo or perform unit testing without incurring any costs.

Azure Cosmos DB offers five well-defined consistency levels—strong, bounded staleness, consistent-prefix, session, and eventual—for an intuitive programming model with low latency and high availability for your planet-scale app. With its latch-free and write optimized database engine, Azure Cosmos DB guarantees less than 10-ms latencies on reads and less than 15-ms latencies on (indexed) writes at the 99th percentile.

Developers can try out Cosmos DB for free here.
