Among all the most wanted Cortana features one of the most anticipated is the ability to speak more languages. Cortana will in the near future speak and understand the following languages:

  • German
  • UK English
  • Indian English
  • US English
  • Spanish Spanish
  • Mexican Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Polish
  • Brazilian Portugese
  • Russian
  • Chinese Chinese
  • Hong King Chinese
  • Taiwanese Chinese

During a conversation with the Windows Insiders at Build 2015, Terry Myerson, vice-president of software at Microsoft, was first asked about the Chess game on Windows. Next he was questioned by a Brazilian journalist about Cortana’s availability in Brazilian Portuguese.

Myerson joked:

Cortana also needs to present the local content and learn the characteristics of the country. It’s not only about recognizing Portuguese. However, I’d say you will get it soon, even before the Chess game’s return to Windows.

Its not surprising that it is complex to adapt Cortana to the country as well as to the language. Will the Chess game be present at the launch of the OS? If so, we can expect Cortana in Portuguese later this summer too.

Myerson also spoke about Windows 10 release, and that it will be ready when Microsoft feels that it reached the final desired quality level. He also confirmed that Windows Insider program won’t be closed after Windows 10 final release and we will continue to receive regular preview versions for tests.
