Microsoft has patched a recent Windows 11 issue that involuntarily uninstalled its AI-driven Copilot application from specific systems. The problem occurred following the Patch Tuesday updates from March 11, 2025, which resulted in Copilot being unpinned from the taskbar and uninstalled from the affected systems.
In response, Microsoft recommended that users reinstall Copilot from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it back to the taskbar. The company has since confirmed that the issue has been fixed through an update to their support document, and the impacted devices are being restored to their previous state, which reinstates Copilot.
The Copilot utility, initially released as a native Windows application earlier this month, offers a new interface and additional functionality. The issue underscores the difficulty of integrating advanced AI tools into operating systems and the necessity of robust update processes to maintain system stability.
While some users found the accidental removal of Copilot inconvenient, others saw it as an opportunity to reassess the feature’s role in their workflow.
