Chrome on iOS

Google Chrome for iOS is testing a new feature that allows users to set reminders for individual tabs directly from the browser’s overflow menu and receive reminder notifications to revisit them later.

As the commit message states, “[iOS] Add ‘Set a Reminder’ action to the Overflow Menu… This CL adds a new ‘Set a Reminder’ action to the overflow menu for the Reminder Notifications project. This allows users to easily create reminders directly from the overflow menu.”

The message continues, “Importantly, this CL only adds the overflow menu action. The actual ‘Set a Reminder’ UI will be implemented in a subsequent CL.” The code also includes the comment: “Creates the ‘Set a Reminder’ action for the overflow menu. This action allows users to set a reminder for a tab.”

The “Set a Reminder for Tab” action will be available in the overflow menu, which lets you quickly and easily create reminders for specific tabs without leaving the browser. It could come in handy for you if you want to be reminded of specific content or tasks within a tab, like a partially completed form, a video paused at a specific point, or a long article you wish to continue reading.

That said, when you set a reminder for a tab, Chrome will schedule a notification titled “Your reminder to revisit,” so that it reminds you to return to the tab and make sure that you don’t miss important information. This behavior is confirmed by the code reference: “Title of a notification reminding the user of a web page that they visited previously.”

This feature is part of the Reminder Notifications project, which aims to integrate reminders into everyday browsing tasks in Chrome.

Still from iOS-related news for the popular browser, Chrome will soon have the ability to delete downloads after 30 days and will open YouTube incognito links directly in incognito mode.
