Black Ops 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 continues to break a lot of metrics, even months since its October 2024 launch. While it was a big success on Microsoft’s Xbox thanks to its availability via Xbox Game Pass, Black Ops 6 is also a hit on rival Sony’s PS5.

The Japanese tech giant recently shared a list of PS5’s most downloaded games of January 2025. Black Ops 6 tops the chart for the US/Canada market, marking its fourth month in a row after a successful December 2024.

Black Ops 6 is trailed by Grand Theft Auto V, the 2013 classic that has cycled in and out of PlayStation Plus alongside NBA 2K25. EA Sports Madden NFL 25 also secures a spot in the top four, coinciding with its addition to Xbox Game Pass for February 2025 and the Super Bowl.

In Europe though, Black Ops 6 is still behind EA Sports FC 25 and GTA V.

During its launching month, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 had the biggest launch on Game Pass, which drove a surge in subscriptions and record day-one players.

At that time, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reported a 60% increase in unit sales on PlayStation and Steam, despite Xbox hardware sales dropping 29%.

Last year’s research also showed that BO6’s availability on Game Pass led to a decline in US game spending in November, as players accessed it through subscriptions instead of purchasing. The game became the second best-selling title of the year in the US, driving an 8% growth in game subscriptions.

More recently, Microsoft also offered Free Play Days for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 until February 9, 2025, but it’s only for a limited time and limited modes like multiplayer and zombies.
