Bernie Sanders has created a Twitch account. That’s right everyone, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is now a Twitch streamer. This is a day.

In a new marketing method called Bernie TV, great name, Sanders will be streaming live videos on Facebook, Twitch and YouTube talking about his presidential campaign. Sanders will be providing both pre and post-debate shows on these services.

“We’re moving toward doing a lot more live content on Twitch, Youtube and Facebook, tapping into an audience where there’s not a lot of political content already,” digital communications director Miller-Lewis said. The campaign is to solidify Sanders’ “Not me, us” political style that the politician is taking. (Thanks, Vox.)

Miller-Lewis’ claims that both YouTube and Facebook are absent from political content is rather strange, especially the former. However, the appearance of political content on Twitch is a fresh form of media for that audience to consume. Hopefully, the Twitch audience will be relaxed and up for clever debating. However, with recent Twitch shenanigans being far from civilised, there’s not much hope there.

Personally, I was hoping that we’d see Sanders becoming a Hearthstone streamer or, at the very least, chasing that PUBG craze. Who knows, maybe he’s more of a Muckbang streamer – maybe it’ll come to him eventually. As for now, seeing Sanders take politics to a new audience is admirable.
