Update: We’ve recently learned that BioWare’s Anthem will be penned by the writer of Knights of the Old Republic and the first two Mass Effect games.

Anthem’s lead designer passed away today according to a post on BioWare’s blog. Corey Gaspur worked for BioWare for a really long time. The designer did great work on games like Dragon Age: Origins and the Mass Effect series. In a post on their blog, the studio said:

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Corey Gaspur. He was a member of our team for over nine years, and worked as a designer on many of our titles, including Sonic Chronicles, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2 and 3, and most recently Anthem. Corey was a talented designer and an even better person. We offer our condolences to Corey’s family and everyone that knew him.
We will miss you.”

This is truly heartbreaking news because Anthem looks like an amazing game. It’s unfortunate he couldn’t see the fruits of his labor. Our condolences go out to his friends and family in this difficult time.
