Google keeps pushing new features to its Workspace applications to enhance users’ productivity. While not every new feature is worth your attention, the recently announced annotations capability will surely make people, especially those who collaborate on documents using their phones or desktops, happy.

Google has announced the ability to give handwritten feedback on Google Docs with a stylus or finger when using an Android device. This will be useful to people belonging to various professions ranging from education to construction. Educators will be able to provide feedback on their students’ projects using an Android phone, while homeowners can give ideas or updates on the construction plans shared by the contractor.

The handwritten annotations feature is useful to all those who want to collaborate with other people on documents. But for that, you’ll need an Android tablet or phone, unlike the last time when Google introduced Google Meet Companion Mode to both Android and iOS. Google Workspace users on other platforms, such as iOS or desktop, will be able to view that feedback but cannot annotate. If it’s not an Android device, you still can hide, show, or erase markups apart from viewing them. For Android users, you can open a document and then navigate to select the markups tool from the contextual toolbar > draw with your finger or stylus

You can use markups in Google documents without requiring permission from admins. However, remember that the feature is rolling out in phases and will be available to all eligible users within 15 days starting yesterday.
