Given the hype around Artificial Intelligence (AI), Meta, like all other major tech companies, doesn’t want to miss the proverbial “AI bus”. The social media giant introducing AI features in the last few months is a testament to the fact that it’s serious about adding AI to its services, including Instagram. There is one more exciting AI capability that’s coming to Instagram Reels to make content even more accessible across the world.
As first spotted by Alessandro Paluzzi, who is a famous reverse engineer, Meta is working on the ability to translate the audio of Instagram Reels. The translation capability will be available within the Instagram app. However, the reverse engineer couldn’t confirm whether the translation will be done after the Reels are published or whether content creators will get the option to add an audio translation before publishing. Either way, Meta’s AI will do the heavy lifting.
Audio translation for Instagram Reels is a welcome step, as it makes content accessible to more people across the world. Of course, this will benefit the content creators on the platform, as language will no longer be a barrier. On the other hand, those who consume Reels will get exposed to content outside their geographical area but dubbed in languages they understand. It’s a win-win!
As confirmed by Paluzzi, Meta has just started the development work for the audio translation feature, leaving us all wondering when it will be available in the Instagram app. If you consume Instagram Reels, let us know how excited you are about the upcoming audio translation capability.
