For general purpose computing, it is usually better to have more RAM than a slightly faster processor.
Microsoft has however been tying RAM upgrades to expensive processor upgrades, meaning you usually had to pay $500 more to get a Surface with 16 GB of RAM.
This appears about to change, however.Best Buy Canada, amongst others, have listed a new Surface Pro 6 (SKU P6A-00001) and 15-inch Surface Book 2 (SKU QKK-00001) with Intel Core i5 processor with 16GB of RAM. Usually, you can only get 16 GB of RAM with the Core i7 processor configuration.
The 16 GB Surface Pro 6 is listed for $1399 while the 16 GB Surface Book 2 is $1999.
Best Buy lists availability as the 18th June 2019, which should correspond to other retailers also.
