We have heard earlier reports that the beleaguered Samsung Galaxy Fold may have been pushed back to fall this year, ie. after August 2019.
Now a Samsung executive has been quoted as saying the company is targeting a somewhat earlier launch, in July this year.
Korean publication NewsTomato quotes Kim Dong-jin, head of IM division of Samsung Electronics, as saying:
“I will meet with a reporter at Gimpo International Airport, Gangseo-gu, Seoul and ask me if I can see the Galaxy Fold in July. I told you to wait a little while before, but I will hold a media conference soon. ”
The news was corroborated by Max Weinbach AKA leaker Samsung.News who observed that he has heard the same information.
I heard from a source that the Galaxy Fold will launch in July. I heard this a few days ago, but now there is a website quoting a Samsung executive saying they would like to see a July launch, but a press conference before that. https://t.co/eu6ahD40cy

Samsung had earlier said that if they are unable to deliver the folding device by the 31st May they would cancel pre-orders. This now appears to be the case. Best Buy had already earlier cancelled all pre-orders.
This is reportedly due to Samsung doing further testing on their fixes to the troubled device. The release was originally planned for June, but “stabilization work will be longer than planned.”
Samsung may still release the device in their local market before an international release. Previously another Samsung official noted, “The release schedule has not been decided, and we are in a position to announce the launch schedule in a few weeks.”
