Dell announces its first VR-Ready Alienware laptops

Dell Alienware 17 1

At PAX West in Seattle, Dell announced its first VR-ready notebooks powered by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series family of GPUs which offer desktop-class graphics performance. They have used new construction materials to improve thermal management for these new powerful components, as well as add durability and rigidity to the Alienware design aesthetic.

The new Alienware 17 is the flagship notebook with overclocked Intel Core i7 k-series processors and DDR4 memory running up to 2667 Mhz. They have also added support for optional IR Tobii eye-tracking technology which allows gamers to fine tune their skills with a new Overwolf app that can replay your gaze pattern so gamers can track where they were looking during gameplay. Also, they partnered with Tobii to add exclusive features including enhanced presence detection tied to our iconic AlienFX lighting zones; the full LED system illuminates and changes based on where you look.

Only on Alienware will your Tobii camera detect your gaze, allow you to record and export your gaze pattern as a coaching tool to help improve you gameplay. It can also sense your presence and attention to understand when you engage with various elements of the device or lock your system when you walk away; these unique features help optimize power, performance, and can improve security.

Alienware 17 options include:

  • Intel Core i7 CPU up to 6820HK Dynamically Overclocked up to 4.1 GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5,
    AMD Radeon RX 470 with 8GB GDDR5, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5, and available in November, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5
  • 8GB DDR4 2400 MHz memory up to 32 GB
  • Various storage capacities across SATA and PCIe, including a 3 TB option:  1TB PCIe (boot drive), 1 TB PCIe (storage) and 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (storage)
  • Networking includes Killer e2400 Gigabit Ethernet, wireless and Bluetooth

The new Alienware 15 comes with graphics options from AMD and NVIDIA, including the VR-ready NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. It also comes with a 15.6” FHD, IPS Anti-Glare, 300-nits display, additional options include FHD 120Hz display with NVIDIA G-Sync for smooth, synchronized frame rates and UHD IGZO for 4k resolutions. It comes with a 68 watt-hour lithium ion battery and an optional 99 watt-hour battery to enable extended gameplay.

Alienware 15 options include:

  • Intel Core i5 CPU up to Core i7 6820HK Dynamically Overclocked up to 4.1 GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5,
    optional AMD Radeon RX 470 with 8GB GDDR5 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5
  • 8GB DDR4 2133 MHz memory up to 32 GB
  • Various storage capacities across SATA and PCIe, including a 3 TB option:  1TB PCIe (boot drive), 1 TB PCIe (storage) and 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (storage) Networking includes Killer e2400 Gigabit Ethernet, wireless and Bluetooth

Dell also announced their smallest Alienware notebook, Alienware 13. Dell claims that is is one of the most compact VR-ready devices ever. This device is configurable with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10-Series graphics, trillions of LED lighting combinations through eight unique programmable lighting zones with up to 20 distinct colors deliver truly dazzling gameplay.

The new Alienware 15 and 17 systems will be configurable to your needs and available to order starting on September 30, 2016. The Alienware 13 will come in November and more detail will be available as we approach that time.
