Rumours of Windows 10 Mobile's death is exaggerated as Microsoft pushes End of Life out one month

We (and everyone else) reported that Windows 10 Mobile reached End of Life on the 10th December 2019 when Microsoft released their last Cumulative Update for the mobile operating system.

On the page for the KB4522812 Update for Windows 10 Mobile (OS Build 15254.600) Microsoft wrote:

Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 will reach end of service on December 10, 2019. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. 

End of Support means:

Windows 10 Mobile users are no longer eligible to receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free. Third parties or paid support programs may provide ongoing support, but it is important to recognize that Microsoft support will not publicly provide updates or patches for Windows 10 Mobile.

It seems, however, the rumours of Windows 10 Mobile’s death were somewhat premature, as (noticed by Marvin) Microsoft has updated the page yesterday with a new EoL date, writing:

Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 will reach end of service on January 14, 2020. Devices running Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. 

This presumably suggests at least one more update is on the way, though this is of course not certain.

It is speculated that the Windows 10 Mobile End of Life date was delayed to align the date with the Windows 7 SP1 End of Life date.
