May 28, 2025 – WhatsApp has rolled out its latest Android beta update (version 2.25.17.36) through the Google Play Beta Program. While the build doesn’t include any visible changes yet, code inside it reveals WhatsApp’s codes on a new accessibility feature focused on increased contrast.

This upcoming setting darkens key buttons and toggles, particularly in light mode, to improve visibility. It helps users with visual impairments better distinguish interface elements and reduce eye strain. The change applies to components like floating action buttons and toggle switches across the app’s main tabs.

WhatsApp started laying the groundwork for contrast control in earlier builds. Now, the focus has narrowed to increasing button visibility by darkening their color—especially helpful for users sensitive to light or with low vision.

Even users without accessibility needs might welcome this update. The darker accents bring a sharper, cleaner aesthetic and make buttons stand out more clearly against WhatsApp’s typically light background.

Although the feature remains under development and isn’t live yet, it signals WhatsApp’s continued effort to improve usability for a broader audience. Expect the feature in an upcoming beta release.
