Key notes
- Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 and 4060 cards remain the top choices for gamers, despite slight declines.
- DirectX 8 GPUs saw a surprising 19.45% rise, while DirectX 12 GPUs still dominate the market.
- Windows 11 also slightly dropped 1.5%, while Windows 10 experienced a surprising increase as it nears end-of-support.
Nvidia continues to break charts with its graphics cards. And now, a recent hardware & software survey from Steam proves it, as the company’s GeForce RTX 3060 and 4060 graphic cards still remain the most popular among gamers on Steam for January 2025.
Despite a slight decline in popularity on both of these cards, the 3060, the 4060 Laptop GPU, and the 4060 still top the chart with 5.2%, 4.61%, and 4.6%, respectively.
Nvidia has had a crazy week recently after the 5090 and 5080 graphics cards launch, which got gamers (literally) camping outside of stores before the launch.
Though, the launch of the 5090s, which promises to bring 8K gaming, is currently facing severe stock shortages, with delays stretching into weeks or months. MSI, one of Nvidia’s partners also said that it’s delaying shipments until February 6 due to supply chain issues and high demand.
Surprisingly though, DirectX 8 GPUs and below saw a big jump in usage, rising by 19.45% in January 2025 compared to the month before. This stands out, especially since DirectX 12 GPUs still make up a massive 93.17% of the market. In contrast, older GPUs like DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 barely moved or even dropped.
Windows 11, on the other hand, saw a slight dip in popularity in January 2025, dropping 1.5% in January 2025, though it still holds a dominant 53.46% of the market share among gamers. In contrast, Windows 10, which is nearing its end-of-support period, experienced a surprising increase of 0.48%, reaching 42.87%.
A thing of nostalgia much?
