WindowsPhoneHAcker has updates his Seven-Eighter app, which forces the Windows Phone 7.8 update by force-feeding your phone the relevant cabs.

The app has now been updated to the latest build of the OS, which should avoid that problem with severe battery drainage and stuck live tiles.
