Recently, Seagate launched a series of portable hard drives called “Backup Plus.” The Backup Plus Ultra Touch, Backup Plus Slim, and Backup Plus Portable are excellent solutions – which are also relatively affordable – to back up your data on any PC. While you can buy any hard drive to achieve the same goal, the software that comes bundled with the Backup Plus series is the star of the show.
Backup Plus Ultra Touch
The Backup Plus Ultra Touch is a standard hard drive, but it features an amazing fabric layer on top. This gives it a premium feel which is devoid on many similar products. Since a backup hard drive usually sits in one place on your desk, it’s essential that it looks good. Many customers may just be looking for a simple product, but if you want to stand out, you should consider the Backup Plus Ultra Touch.
The hard drive works with USB 3.0 and USB-C machines because it comes with an adapter. Oddly enough, a lot of the competition lacks this basic feature. The warranty is also better than what other manufacturers provide because Seagate offers two years instead of just one. Since it’s a traditional spinning hard drive, this instills confidence in the product.
Mylio Create is powerful photo editing software and you get a one-year subscription with the purchase of the Backup Plus Ultra Touch. You also get a two-month membership to the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan.
The Backup Plus Ultra Touch 1 TB costs $70 on Amazon.
Backup Plus Slim
The Backup Plus Slim is almost exactly like the Backup Plus Ultra Touch, but it lacks the fabric. Despite this, the hard drive is a stylish device which should get the job done. While the lack of fabric isn’t a dealbreaker, it doesn’t come with a USB-C adapter. You can probably buy one on Amazon, but it would’ve been nice to have it included.
The Backup Plus Slim is your standard hard drive, and for that reason, it’s quite cheap. If you’re fine with the USB 3.0 connection, then you can get one for almost half the cost of the Backup Plus Ultra Touch.
The Backup Plus Slim 1 TB costs $44 on Amazon.
Backup Plus Portable
The Backup Plus Portable is a behemoth. The storage capacity starts at 4 TB, and it gets you a massive hard drive which looks like a thicker version of the Backup Plus Slim. The colors are mostly the same, too.
The Backup Plus Ultra Touch and Backup Plus Slim are great for smaller jobs, but if you want to save a lot of massive files, you’ll want to go with the Backup Plus Portable. It may be a little clunky because it’s double the size, but it gets the job done. Just like the Backup Plus Slim, it doesn’t come with a USB-C adapter.
The Backup Plus Portable 4 TB costs $94 on Amazon.
The only reason you would want to buy a traditional hard drive would be to back up data. Nowadays, solid state drives (SSD) are decreasing in price, and they offer much more reliability and speed. For example, if you’re thinking about using the Backup Plus series with an Xbox One, remember that you won’t see a noticeable decrease in loading times unless you purchase an SSD.
At the end of the day, it’s your decision. If you do decide to purchase a traditional hard drive as a backup solution, you can’t go wrong with the Backup Plus series due to its excellent warranty and bundled software.
