A leaked camera component suggests Samsung may be working on its own periscope camera similar to that of the ground-breaking Huawei P30 Pro.

The picture of the component was posted by Korean site TheLec and shows the device in a test socket by MecaTech Systems designed for folded lenses.

Folded lenses are what allows engineers to fit a 5x optical zoom in a thing device such as the typical smartphone.

As can be seen from Samsung’s video below, a folded lens offers multiple advantages, including the ability to implement optical image stabilization.

The Samsung Galaxy S11 (code-named Picasso) is expected to offer 5x optical zoom and to be launched in February/March 2020.
