Today, we reported that Samsung will finally release its first foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold on September 27th. Now, Bloomberg has revealed details on another foldable device from Samsung. Samsung is planning to release a foldable device that folds down into a compact square like classic flip phones. We recently published a patent from Samsung that described a similar form factor. You can read about it here.
According to Bloomberg, this new foldable device from Samsung will be released early next year and it will be thinner and more affordable than the upcoming Galaxy Fold device. Samsung is also partnering with American designer Thom Browne on this upcoming foldable phone to make it more appealing to design conscious customers.
Other details about this new foldable phone:
- Punch hole selfie camera.
- Dual camera setup on the back.
- Samsung is testing the use of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) for the inner display. UTG measures just 3% the thickness of the glass generally used to protect smartphone displays.
I’m expecting Samsung to reveal this new foldable device at MWC next year.
