Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 636 processor for mid-range smartphones

Qualcomm today announced Snapdragon 636, a new mobile processor that offers improved performance, enhanced gaming and display technology support for mid-range smartphones. The Snapdragon 636 will serve users who demand high quality devices with top-level features at a low price point.

The Snapdragon 636 is based on the Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU and it offers 40% more performance over the Snapdragon 630. To support modern smartphone design trends, Qualcomm has added support for ultra-wide FHD+ displays and Assertive Display, which optimizes the visibility of the display in all lighting conditions.

The Snapdragon 636 comes with support for Qualcomm TruPalette and Qualcomm EcoPix technologies to deliver superior viewing experiences. Qualcomm also mentioned that the included Adreno 509 GPU offers 10 percent improved gaming performance as compared to the previous generation.

The Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform features the advanced Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that supports download speeds of 600 Mbps. The 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP will support capture of up to 24 megapixels and the Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec supports Hi-Fi audio.

The Snapdragon 636 mobile platform will be available in November 2017.
