PS4 beats Xbox One in Amazon 2016 sales charts

It seems a late comeback by the Xbox One S towards the end of the year was not enough to erase the sales lead of the PS4 in USA, according to Amazon’s 2016 gaming sales charts.

Their full year numbers show the PS4 as holding the top 3 out of 5 slots for consoles and bundles sold at the online retailer, placing the console overall well ahead.

The Games sales chart is more of a mixed bag, but the Xbox One is still only 4 out of the 20 titles, versus 12 for the PS4

Sony announced in early December 2016 that it has sold more than 50 million consoles to consumers worldwide, and expected to sell another 20 million by the end of March 2017. Microsoft has touted some monthly wins in USA and UK over the last 4 months, but overall has declined to release any sales numbers.

Microsoft has seen a good response to the Xbox One S however, despite pre-announcing the Xbox Scorpio, and this may have instilled some confidence in the company, with head of Xbox marketing Aaron Greenberg saying 2017 will be the year of Project Scorpio.

The console will outmatch Sony’s own next generation console and deliver true 4K gaming, while still being fully backwards compatible with the current library of Xbox One games. It is however only expected towards the end of the year, and it remains to be seen of the Xbox One S momentum will be sustained over the course of the year till then.
