The days of Office 365 for Windows 10 are coming to an end.
Microsoft says that it’s ending support for Office 365 apps for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, just as how Windows 10 is being retired after that date. That includes core programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Teams, Access, and Publisher.
Sure, the apps will function just fine after this date, but you may face performance issues over time as they get rusty since Microsoft won’t release any updates.
“Your computer will still work. However, with security threats on the rise, it is imperative you upgrade, immediately. The great news is that you still have time to make the jump,” says Microsoft’s Margaret Farmer from Customer Success Lead.
Microsoft has made a lot of conscious efforts to migrate people to Windows 11, despite Windows 10 still being a popular operating system. The Redmond tech giant is even offering a $30 Extended Security Update (ESU) option for individual consumers to extend the life of Windows 10 after its end-of-support date.
But despite that, Windows 11’s adoption rate is still not going as fast as Microsoft would have hoped. The latest OS’ strict hardware requirement is the nail in the coffin, especially after Microsoft said that non-TPM 2.0 PCs cannot run Windows 11 and it’s “non-negotiable.”
Microsoft also famously tells users to just “buy a new PC” if their Windows 10-running device isn’t capable of running Windows 10.
