Microsoft today released an update to the mail app for Windows Insiders with a slight change to the user interface.

Now, Outlook Mail displays the avatars of email contacts in the inbox pane, so you can see who sent you an email at a glance. For contacts with no avatars, they now get new colorful icons in the app with their initials highlighted.

Microsoft first introduced these colorful avatars in the Android app a few years ago and is now bringing it over to Windows. While it does make the app prettier overall and allows one to parse emails slightly faster, there are concerns by some users that the avatars disrupt the user interface with over 3,000 users signing a petition demanding Microsoft remove them.

The update takes the app to version  17.7906.42007.0 and is available for Insiders on the Fast Ring for either PC  or mobile devices.
