To isolate browser-based attacks, Microsoft Edge uses hardware-based isolation technology on Windows 10. Microsoft is now bringing this security solution as an extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Here’s how the Windows Defender Application Guard extension will work on Chrome and Firefox:
- When a user visits a less secure website defined by enterprise administrators, this new extension will redirect users to Windows Defender Application Guard for Microsoft Edge.
- In the isolated session on Edge, the user can navigate to any site without any risk to the rest of PC.
- In the future, if the user tries to go to an enterprise site while in an isolated Microsoft Edge session, the user is taken back to the default browser.
This new Windows Defender Application Guard extension for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will work on Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education SKUs, version 1803 and later with latest updates installed.
