Two of the recently introduced Surface devices: the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, do not include a single USB Type-C port. A lot of users are disappointed by the fact that Microsoft is still sticking to Type-A ports, but Microsoft will soon have a product for those people. In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft’s Panos Panay revealed that the company is working on a USB Type-C dongle for the Surface that will allow users to use Type-C on their Surface. Panay stated:
“I love the technology in Type-C, I believe in Type-C. When Type-C is ready for our customers, to make it easy for them, we’ll be there. If you love Type-C, it means you love dongles. We’re giving a dongle to people who love dongles. If you want to charge a device with a Type-C charger, you can. If you want to put data back and forth with a Type-C peripheral, you can.”
It isn’t clear if Microsoft is going to bundle the new Type-C dongle with the new Surface Pro or Surface Laptop, or if it will be sold separately. At the moment, however, there isn’t a lot of details available about the USB-C dongle from Microsoft but we’ll make sure to let you know once that’s available.
You can grab the Surface Pro from the Microsoft Store here.
