Meta is riding high after the successful launch of the Threads app — the platform reached 100M users in just a week. The company is also making efforts to add new features to its existing and popular applications, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The social media giant has recently highlighted a bunch of new features for its apps across different platforms.
The company shared some updates about Avatar in its official blog post to make its apps and platforms more fun, useful, and social. One such exciting update is the support for real-time calling with Meta Avatars for people using Messenger and Instagram on Android or iOS. As per the company, real-time calling with Avatars gives users a viable “third option between camera-off and camera-on” so that users can attend the video call without worrying about how presentable they’re at that moment.
Moreover, Meta announced support for animated stickers in Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels, Facebook comments, and 1:1 message threads on Messenger and Instagram. Again, all these changes are phone agnostic, so they should be available on Android and iOS. It has also introduced what’s called “Social Stickers.” The social stickers can include you and another person you know on Facebook. You can share your social stickers of you and that friend in 1:1 message threads.
Besides announcing these features, Meta also revealed what it’s currently working on. The company is testing a new feature for Facebook and WhatsApp to offer suggested avatar options generated from a live selfie. This will take only a few seconds, as per Meta. You will be able to choose from these many avatar options to present yourself through that Avatar in the best possible way. Another significant change coming up to Meta platforms is the standardization of the look of avatars across all its platforms. This means how you show up on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp will match your look in VR.
Meta also has more avatar news in the months ahead, and we can’t wait to hear what the social media giant has in store in the future. Do you like everything Meta announced for its platforms? Let us know in the comments section.
