Kantar today released their report on smartphone market share in many global markets. Microsoft’s Windows Phone saw growth in most of the important markets to a respectable level. Windows Phone captured 9.7% of the Italy market which is its highest and and lost almost 1.1% in Australia. See the Windows Phone market share list below. In Europe, Windows Phone averaged 2.5% growth which I think is a decent number.
Country | 3 m/e May 2012 | 3 m/e May 2013 | % pt change |
Germany | 6.5 | 6.1 | -0.4 |
GB | 4.1 | 7.8 | 3.7 |
France | 2.0 | 7.4 | 5.4 |
Italy | 6.9 | 9.7 | 2.8 |
Spain | 1.7 | 1.9 | 0.2 |
USA | 3.7 | 4.6 | 0.9 |
China | 2.9 | ||
Australia | 6.7 | 5.6 | -1.1 |
Mexico | 2.2 | 6.6 | 4.4 |
EU5 | 4.3 | 6.8 | 2.5 |
Sequentially however we do see some losses from the April period, possibly related to high profile Android launches like the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. Â Windows Phone held up well overall however and maintained its 6.5% market share in Europe from the April period.
Based on the above numbers, Microsoft and Nokia has more work to do to win away consumers and network operators from Android. What do you think?
