While modern camera phones appeared to have standardised around 12- 20 MP camera lenses with a dual lens system an option, Huawei appears to be going its own way and one-upping everyone. The firm will reportedly be shipping the Huawei P20 Pro with a rumoured 3 camera system, which will feature an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, a 20-megapixel black and white lens as well as a 40-megapixel main camera.

If that number sounds familiar, its because it recalls shades of Nokia’s famous Wind0ws phone, the camera focused Lumia 1020 which shipped with a 41-megapixel PureView lens. That phone was itself inspired by Nokia’s 808 pureview phone, which was the first phone with that eye-popping number of megapixels.

The firm has since opted to ship smaller camera lens, with 20 megapixels in his last Lumia 1520 and 930 flagships, as well as a 12-megapixel camera in its current Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco flagships.

In some ways, Nokia’s imaging prowess was ahead of its time, and while the firm’s DNA continues to flow in HMD’s Nokia line of phones, the Lumia 1020/Nokia 808 camera pedigree had yet to e replicated, till now.
