Google’s Assistant isn’t exactly hard to access on Pixel Phones, Users can invoke it by saying Ok Google, or by squeezing the sides and now Google wants to add a third method for users as per a new 9to5Google report.
The firm is looking into adding a new raise to speak functionality which would let users issue Assistant voice commands by raising their phones. presumably, it’ll work somehow like their raise to wake feature, or as an extension of it.
While this is merely a possibility at the moment, there are obvious issues with this implementation. For instance, it would super prone to accidental activation, unlike the customisable squeeze gestures. Speaking of which if you can hold your phone to raise it — you can squeeze it to do so. Perhaps Google’s considering a combination of the two, or the raise to speak gesture will only be enabled in the main assistant app — there’s not enough information to say at the moment.
The Google Pixel 4 is scheduled to launch on October 15, and we’ll learn more about it then.
