Google has introduced granular OAuth consent for HTTP-based Google Workspace add-ons. This will allow users to grant permissions to third-party applications selectively. This update enhances user control over data sharing by enabling consent for specific OAuth scopes rather than all at once. The rollout began on May 6, 2025, and is expected to be completed by May 19, 2025.

Developers are required to support Google’s OAuth feature in new add-ons by May 27, 2025. However, existing add-ons must comply by December 1, 2025. After these dates, all HTTP Workspace add-ons must incorporate granular consent functionality. Users may encounter additional consent prompts if they access parts of an add-on requiring previously ungranted permissions, if the add-on updates to request new scopes, or if access has been revoked in their Google Account settings.

This change by Google Workspace currently applies to HTTP-based add-ons and does not affect those built with Apps Script or installed by administrators
