Google AI Studio

With Gemini 2.0 Flash being available for both consumers and developers, Google promises that it’ll eliminate the model gap that has existed between the Gemini app and Google AI Studio, two of its platforms to test & develop generative AI solutions.

Logan Kilpatrick, Google AI Studio’s lead product, shared on X that there have been ongoing efforts to close the gap between the Gemini app and AI Studio. In another post, Kilpatrick also responded to a user questioning the large performance gap between AI Studio (2000 RPM) and Vertex AI (5 RPM), and promised to look into it.

Google AI Studio and Vertex AI are both platforms developed by Google to facilitate AI and machine learning projects, but they cater to different user needs.

Google AI Studio is designed for faster prototyping and experimentation, so that it has a user-friendly, no-code or low-code environment that lets business analysts, citizen developers, and teams quickly build AI apps without extensive technical expertise.

Vertex AI, on the other hand, is an enterprise-grade platform for data scientists and machine learning engineers. It has an end-to-end solution for custom model development, training, deployment, and management, and supports both AutoML and custom training workflows. It also integrates deeply with Google Cloud services.

Besides Gemini 2.0 Flash which will be available today, Google also has Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental, Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental, Gemini Experimental 1206, and the Gemini 1.5 family models. The Gemini 2.0 Flash model is also now available on the Gemini chatbot.
