Key notes
- Google has introduced the ability to pin chat messages in Google Meet video meetings for desktop users.
- Pinned chat messages will be visible to every meeting participant.
- Meeting hosts can unpin anyone’s messages.
Days after announcing ‘companion mode’ support for Google Meet mobile client, the Mountain View tech firm announced that users can now pin their chat messages in video meetings. However, the ability to pin chat messages is available only for desktop users, similar to the companion mode at launch.
If you’re Google Meet on a PC or Mac, you can pin chat messages in video meetings for everyone to see, including participants who have yet to join. You can also change your mind later and unpin those messages from the meeting. If you’re a host, you have the privilege to unpin anyone’s messages, as noted by Google in its official blog post.
If you’re to pin a message in Google Meet from your computer, you need to follow only a couple of simple steps.
How to pin chats in Google Meet video Meetings
- Hover your mouse over the chat message that you want to pin in a video meeting.
- Click Pin, which should appear on at the top right after you hover over the message.
However, it’s not clear whether participants and hosts can pin multiple messages in meetings. That said, it’s worth pointing out that hosts need to turn on Host Management to be able to allow participants to send messages in a video meeting. If you can’t send the chat messages during a video meeting in Google Meet, it simply means your host hasn’t enabled the feature for participants.
Google hasn’t specified when it’ll introduce chat pinning capability to Google Meet for iOS and Android. But when or if ever the feature becomes available for mobile, users will likely be able to pin messages simply by tapping the messages and selecting the pin option.
