It’s rare to cover an update of an Android app that isn’t Microsoft, but this one strikes me as particularly interesting for Microsoft users.

Google has issued an update to its Google Drive app that allows support for users to download and view password protected office files. What this means is that business users who like to mix and match solutions can now combine the feature-packed nature of office over Google Docs to share files with users over the less convoluted Google Drive without having to fully commit to one ecosystem or the other.

It’s a small, but interesting change.

Here’s the full changelog.

  •  Support for viewing and opening password-protected Microsoft Office files.
  •  Bug fixes and performance improvements

The update is available for the Google Play Store for Play enabled devices and can be downloaded now.
