Google Messages is the default SMS and RCS client for Android users. Google today announced two new features for Messages app.

First feature is called Verified SMS and it will help users in confirming the true identity of the business that’s texting them. If the message is verified, Google will display the business name and logo as well as a verification badge in the message thread. 1-800-Flowers, Banco Bradesco, Kayak, Payback, and SoFi are some of the businesses that will send messages with Verified SMS starting today. Google Pay India and verification codes from Google will also be enrolled in Verified SMS. This new Verified SMS for Messages feature is rolling out in nine countries: U.S., India, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., France, Philippines, Spain and Canada.

Second feature is real-time spam detection. Google Messages app will now warn you of suspected spam and unsafe websites links in messages you receive. You can also improve Google’s spam models by marking specific messages as spam. Messages app will also allow you to block the conversation so you won’t receive any messages from a particular sender. This new spam protection feature is now rolling out in the US.
