As cyber threats escalate in scale and sophistication, a coalition of more than 50 Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from leading global companies, including Microsoft, have issued a joint letter calling for international alignment of cybersecurity regulations. The move comes in response to a fragmented global regulatory landscape that has complicated security efforts and hindered effective threat response.

It stresses the high necessity for coordinated international response in a situation where the lack of convergence of regulations between sectors and states, causes delays in addressing these types of situations, difficulties in establishing unified security policies, and ineffectiveness in threat information sharing . These also affect response capacities and also contribute to the global lack of cybersecurity professionals.

A call for commitments from governments at a high level and an organized dialogue between states at the international level to achieve regulatory convergence forms part of what the CISO community is advocating for. They suggest using international organizations like OECD to cooperate, share best practices, and propose guarantees of reciprocity in terms of compliance..

Companies like Microsoft and other industry giants are calling for stricter and more centralized cybersecurity governance and have recognized that only coordinated international efforts can ensure the protection of the digital infrastructure. The call to action encourages governments and stakeholders to participate in a global discussion on strengthening overall cyber resilience
