The PC requirements for Gears 5 were revealed the other day and it was assumed that, seeing as the Windows Store had Windows 10 as a minimum requirement, Steam would too.

However, eagle-eyed Twitter user @ProGears360 spotted that the requirements for the game on its Steam store page actually had Windows 7 (SP1 64-bit) listed as being able to run Gears 5.

Ryan Cleven, the Gears of War Multiplayer Design Director, confirmed that the game can indeed run on Windows 7 with a simple “Yar.”

Of course, you can’t just pick up any device that runs Windows 7 and expect it to work. You’ll need a whole bunch of other things, including 80GB of available storage space, for Gears 5 to run.

The full list of minimum requirements for Gears 5 on Steam can be found below:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD FX-6000 series | Intel i3 Skylake
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 280 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 80GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible

Bear in mind that these are the minimum requirements and, even if you meet all of them, your version of Gears 5 might not run as smoothly or nicely as you want.

The recommended requirements for the optimum Gears 5 experience can be found below:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 | Intel i5 Skylake
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 570 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 80GB available space

Gears 5 will be out on Steam and the Windows Store on September 9th, 2019. If you’ve purchased the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition, you’ll be able to play an entire four days earlier, on September 5th.

If you’re getting Gears 5 from Steam, just be aware that you’ll have to log in with an Xbox Live account to play the game.
