Samsung today announced its latest flagship application processor, the Exynos 9 Series 9820, that is expected to power the upcoming Galaxy S10 series devices. This new Exynos 9820 processor features a fourth-generation custom CPU, 2Gbps LTE Advanced Pro modem, and an enhanced neural processing unit (NPU).
The Exynos 9820 will only offer decent performance improvements over its predecessor. The new fourth-generation custom core will offer around 20-percent improvement in single core performance or 40-percent in power efficiency. And the multi-core performance is increased by around 15 percent. It is packed with Mali-G76 GPU cores to offer a 40-percent performance boost or 35-percent power efficiency.
Samsung for the first time has included dedicated hardware AI-accelerator, or NPU in its processor. And the Exynos 9820 will support encoding and decoding of 4K UHD video at 150 frames per second (fps) and renders colors in 10-bit.
The Exynos 9 Series 9820 is expected to be mass produced by the end of this year.
