The most exciting device for Windows phone fans this year has been the HP Elite X3, which not only looks good but offers bleeding edge specs.
It seems HP has gone even further out of its way to address every conceivable fantasy Windows phone fans may have however, with a new leak revealing the device will even come with a laptop accessory driven by the smartphone.
The so-called Mobile Extender will offer a 12.5 inch screen feature its own battery, work either over USB-C or Miracast, and will weight in around 1 kg.
While Continuum will only run Universal Windows Apps, HP will also offer access to full desktop apps via their bundled HP Workspace app, which offers access to a desktop in the cloud and full x86 apps.
For stay at home folks the device will come bundled with the Desk Dock, which features USB-C, two full-size USB3 ports, DisplayPort and Ethernet connectors as well as a Kensington security slot.
The specs are confirmed as:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 eight-core processor
- 4 GB RAM
- 6in screen 2560×1440 pixels screen
- 16-megapixel camera on the back; 8-megapixel front facing
- Iris recognition
- Fingerprint reader
- Dual-SIM
- Front-facing speaker
- microSD card up to 2 TB
- Cat 6 LTE, 2×2 802.11ac WiFi
- USB-C
- 5 pin connector for battery cases or credit card readers etc.
- IP67 and MIL-STD-810-G compliant (water resistant, dust resistant, can survive 4 foot drop).
The device is expected in the mid to late Summer and should be formally announced in the next few days.
