OpenAI, the AI company behind ChatGPT, has just launched an important update to the AI chatbot, especially when you use the reasoning-excelling o1 and o3 mini models.
The company announced recently that you can now upload files and images when using ChatGPT with these two models. As things stand, for now, you can pick models like the o3-mini, o3-mini-high, and o1 besides GPT-4o when you have a ChatGPT Plus tier at $20/month.
Though, some users reported that the feature is not equally rolling out worldwide, especially in Europe and some other parts of the world.
OpenAI launched the o1 model last year and has made it available to ChatGPT free users, but with limits.
The company also introduced the o3 model back in December 2024 with significant milestones, such as a 75.7% score on the ARC-AGI benchmark and 82.0 in a 5-shot scenario on MMLU. The o3-mini, a streamlined version, is also now available for all ChatGPT users, as well as API for developers.
So, compared to the o1-mini or even the o1 or the original o3, the o3-mini is a cost-efficient and faster model for STEM-related tasks like math, science, and coding. It supports higher rate limits and lower latency, making it ideal for technical problem-solving that needs to be done fast.
Still from the same update, OpenAI also brought a piece of good news for paid users in the Pro tier: the o3-mini-high limits have been raised by 7 times to up to 50 per day.
