Ever since Apple launched the iPhone X, smartphone manufacturers have gotten the idea of putting a notch on the top of the screen. While it does improve the screen-to-body ratio, the notch itself doesn’t look good on the device. This, in turn, pushed companies to look for alternatives which gave rise to the pop-up camera design.

The pop-up camera design has helped companies to skip the notch design and while everyone’s avoiding the notch, Xiaomi decided it will be fun to reverse it. According to a new patent filing, Xiaomi is planning to reverse the notch. The patent was filed by the company in mid-2018 and was published on April 23, 2019. No doubt the design is unique but is not the right way to solve the notch problem. The patent also shows a dual-camera setup on the back of the device.

As we have always said, patents don’t always mean the company will go through with the actual product. In this case, we do hope that Xiaomi doesn’t actually design a device with a reversed notch.
