Smartphone owners are pretty attached to their phones, with more than 90% never being more than a metre away from their handsets 24 hours per day.

It turns out however when it comes to being able to live without your phone, Windows Phone users are somewhat less addicted than other smartphone operating systems.

In a large US poll run by Gallup of  15,747 US smartphone owners who are part of their panel between April and May this year, only 27% of Blackberry and Windows Phone owners said they could not imagine life without their phone, compared to 43% of Android and 52% of iPhone owners.

The poll found younger users more more attached to their phones than older users, with 51 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 agreed with the statement in question while only 40 percent among those 65 and older.

It also found women were universally more bonded to their smartphones than men with 10% more feeling they could not live without their handsets.

From an OS point of view however, if is interesting to speculate of Windows Phone and Blackberry users gravitate to those handsets because they are not caught up in smartphone addiction, or if having those devices themselves prevent them from being so hung up.
