Resume on Windows 11

It’s that time for Patch Tuesday. Microsoft has finally launched Windows 11’s KB5051987 update for 24H2, its most AI-friendly version.

With that, the Redmond tech giant brings a lot of improvements here and there. These include the OneDrive-powered Resume feature, better tab management in File Explorer, and improved taskbar animations.

Folks over at Windows Latest reported last year that the Resume feature was in the works. Copying Apple’s “Handoff,” Resume on Windows 11 lets you continue tasks across devices.

Initially supporting Android, it allows users to switch easily between phone and PC for supported apps, starting with OneDrive. The feature appears under System settings (when you log into your PC for the first time, for example) and is expected to expand to other apps like the Edge browser.

Microsoft has previously shipped this feature not too long ago in a Windows 11 beta version (Build 27788) for Canary channel insiders. With that update, Microsoft also released the first public preview of Windows MIDI Services decades after the first MIDI became the industry’s standard, bringing full support for MIDI 2.0 while modernizing MIDI 1.0.

On the KB5051987’s documentation, Microsoft also says that the update enhances internal OS security, but with a few known issues like Roblox download problems on Arm devices, OpenSSH service failures, and installation issues with Citrix Session Recording Agent v. 2411.

You can install Windows 11’s KB5051987 mandatory security update (Patch Tuesday) via Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
