Tweetdeck has announced their plans to bring their twitter software to multiple mobile operating systems through the use of optimised web applications.
The approach promises easy porting, better battery life due to lack of background apps, faster development and support for many more platforms. At present Tweetdeck only supports the iPhone and iPad.
Regarding optimization for each platform they note:
And rather than settling for a lowest common denominator approach, we plan to create style sheets and Javascript dedicated to each platform. This will provide an experience enhanced for each mobile browser. We’ve started by optimizing for BlackBerry devices but would love to hear from you about which platforms we should be polishing next.
