Last week, Microsoft announced the new Surface Laptop 3 15-inch variant powered by a new custom processor which was developed by Microsoft in partnership with AMD. The AMD Ryzen 5 3580U Surface Edition processor comes with Radeon Vega 9 Graphics while the AMD Ryzen 7 3780U Surface Edition processor comes with Radeon RX Vega 11 Graphics.
For businesses, Microsoft will offer Surface Laptop 3 15-inch variant with Intel 10th gen processors, Quad-core 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G7 Processor and Quad-core 10th Gen Intel Core i7-1065G7 Processor.
Even though the AMD Ryzen-powered Surface Laptop 3 will offer better graphics performance, the Intel-powered Surface Laptop 3 will offer the following advantages:
- WiFi 6: Now with Intel Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+), you can enjoy a fast and reliable Wi-Fi connection. And it will be compatible with 802.11ax. AMD-powered Surface Laptop 3 will only support Wi-Fi 5 that is 802.11ac compatible.
- More efficient RAM: Intel-based Surface Laptop 3 comes with much more efficient LPDDR4x RAM when compared to DDR4 RAM on AMD-based Surface Laptop 3.
- Better performance: Early benchmarks suggests that Intel-based Surface Laptop 3 will offer at least 10% better multi-core performance when compared to AMD-based Surface Laptop 3.
