Does anyone remember the extras+info “bug” that struck a while ago mocking WP users (and those poor guys who bought the Icon)? For those who can’t remember, here’s a brief rundown. After an update to the extras+info app, the app would read Lumia Denim for Lumias users who were on Windows Phone 8.1.1 and had opted out of the dev preview. This has been treated as a bug for a while, but the roll-out of “Lumias Denim” yesterday may have shed some light on this.
The answer is, I believe that extras+info has been modified to read the OS version rather than the firmware version. This is why the bug has not been fixed despite extras+info receiving more updates, because it may have been intentional and not an actual bug.
Why on earth would Microsoft modify the app to read OS version rather than firmware version?
Simple, this is because some Lumias devices would not receive any additional firmware with GDR1. Mainly all Lumias that are not the 1520, 930, Icon and 830. Those devices are the ones receiving updates namely “Hey Cortana” and “Lumias Camera 5”.
Prove it.

The Microsoft site for Lumia Denim update availability displays this oddity once you compare firmware numbers. Adding to that, I’ve also experimented with my Lumias 625 over the course of a day and a few reflashes to verify(no PfD activated) and I only received the 8.1.1 update without any accompanying firmware.
Until MS confirms though, this remains a theory (no matter how plausible)
So sound off then, have you received a firmware update on your non-special snowflake Lumia? Let us know in the comments.
